Sunday dinner

Image
As I mentioned in a previous post, for the month of January we are doing a spending freeze on unnecessary purchases. Upon deciding this we also agreed that date nights at restaurants for the month of January would also be eliminated. We even went a step further and also decided that we wouldnt drink any alcohol for the month of January to help assist with our no spend January. Its not difficult to notice that a bottle of wine here and there does eventually add up but if Im to be honest, I dont think this is something wed continue during our no spend months because theres nothing like a nice glass of wine on the weekends. Sunday dinners for the month of January have felt like date nights and it has actually been really nice. Granted we dont go the extra step by dressing up for dinner but to be honest, whats better than being able to eat a delicious home cooked meal while dressed in your favorite, old and rather ratty tee-shirt? Not much, right? This particular Sunday dinner ...

Slow paced winters

Image
I completely welcome the slow paced life after the holidays. I actually become quite the hermit in the winter and it takes a lot for me to want to venture out. After the last week of extremely frigid weather, we are welcoming digits in the 40s and 50s so it kinda feels like a heat wave. I just might make myself get out of the house this weekend. But to be honest, there is truly not much I like to do outdoors in the winter when I could just be cozy and warm at home. This year one of my goals is to read more books and what better time than in the winter? Its also around this time that I feel that my blog gets rather quiet and its mostly because I dont have much going on and in turn not much to write about. Because I feel Ive been consistently blogging at least three times per week the last few months, I feel the need to note that my blog posts may become a bit more sporadic and less while I enjoy the quiet and stillness that the winter offers. What are some things that you do ...

24 Hours.

Image
Two weekends ago, Sean and I traveled to upstate New York for 24 hours. We arrived Friday afternoon around 2pm and were gone Saturday afternoon at 2pm. Sean went to an ugly Christmas sweater party with some of his high school buddies and I chose to spend the night with Colleen and her crew. Anytime I can get some quality time with Colleen and Joey, I make sure to take it. Especially now with Joeys vocabulary growing and the fact that he knows me by name, its really important to me to develop a relationship with him. And now with Colleen expecting #2 (a girl!) I have to get up here more often! We had plans to get dressed up to go out to a favorite restaurant of ours but we ended up just going out in sweats and getting Chinese food. It was perfect having Faith and Colleen time and being able to talk each other's ears off. I was thrilled to have an easy Friday night with my best friend. When we got back we continued watching Christmas movies until it was time to call it a nig...

At home for Christmas

Image
Decorating for Christmas is one of my most favorite things to do. I do always tend to have issue with re-arranging things since the tree takes up a good portion of the space in our sitting room. This year, instead of putting the yellow chairs away (that usually go where the tree goes) I placed them in front of our window. Although, I much prefer them in their usual designated area, it is convenient to have additional seating when friends or family are over. Not related to this topic but of course I feel the need to mention, our palm tree had to find a new home away from the window because winter, and well, it thrived so much better by the window. Crossing fingers that it makes it though the winter and can go back to its beloved spot. This year we chose purple ornaments as a sort of tribute to my mom and every time I see it I cant help but smile. Ive been insane with the watching of Christmas movies and listening to Christmas music this year. It truly has helped to put me in a ...
