Good food & good music

Image
I dont think there are many more things that are better than good food & good music. I truly believe that food & music can often play a role in putting someone in a great mood or a foul mood. For instance, I know that when I hear a song that I use to listen to when I was a kid, it just brings me back to that exact moment and often times I cant help but get the silliest grin on my face. Anyway, this brunch date with Cinthia on an extremely cold, spring day (not bitter) did just that. It transported me back to New Orleans where I was stuffing my piehole with delicious foods while listening to live jazz music. And what a great time we had! Live jazz, bottomless mimosas, the cheesiest mac and cheese, lightly toasted cornbread, fried green tomatoes, NOLA shrimp and warm beignets. We felt like we ordered it all but truthfully, we hardly touched the surface of the menu. This wasnt our first time at The Bayou but it was just as enjoyable as the first time. I feel like we w...

Lunch at The Shelby

Image
I love having go-to restaurants but I also enjoy trying new restaurants; as Im always hoping to add a new favorite to the ever-growing list. When I checked out The Shelby for the first time several months ago, I knew that I had to go back again with my camera to take proper pictures as I found this place to be so striking. What better place to share than on here? When I got the chance to visit again, I made sure to bring my camera along. Cinthia and Sean havent had the opportunity to try this place yet so I know another visit is in my near future and I already cant wait. How funny is it that gorgeous restaurants (and good food) get me this excited? Their cheese curds are amazing. Although, they tasted a little different from the first time I tried them, still so good! Their drink list is also so extensive and Im looking forward to trying more things on their food and drink menu.

24 Hours.

Image
Two weekends ago, Sean and I traveled to upstate New York for 24 hours. We arrived Friday afternoon around 2pm and were gone Saturday afternoon at 2pm. Sean went to an ugly Christmas sweater party with some of his high school buddies and I chose to spend the night with Colleen and her crew. Anytime I can get some quality time with Colleen and Joey, I make sure to take it. Especially now with Joeys vocabulary growing and the fact that he knows me by name, its really important to me to develop a relationship with him. And now with Colleen expecting #2 (a girl!) I have to get up here more often! We had plans to get dressed up to go out to a favorite restaurant of ours but we ended up just going out in sweats and getting Chinese food. It was perfect having Faith and Colleen time and being able to talk each other's ears off. I was thrilled to have an easy Friday night with my best friend. When we got back we continued watching Christmas movies until it was time to call it a nig...

Peruvian food for our Friday date night

Image
A few weeks ago, I told Sean that I wanted to treat him to a date night, so he should let me know what restaurant he would like to go to and what hed like to do afterwards. Sean did some research online and then told me he wanted to check out a Peruvian restaurant in the neighboring town. Sean traveled to Peru a few years ago and loved their cuisine so you can say he was pretty excited to find a Peruvian restaurant so close to where we live. The best part was that the food was amazing and they also served Columbian cuisine. I am not exaggerating when I say, there was not a piece of food left on our plates. It was like a meal prepared for you at home, but better, and we cant wait to head to El Chasqui again. We went for an early dinner and it was a great time to go because we were the only patrons. The owner was so attentive and helped us decide what to order when we could not make up or minds. For a rather small restaurant, we were surprised with their extensive menu. I hop...

Summer Bucket List: Try a new restaurant

Image
I cannot believe that summer is almost over. It went by so quickly! I know it happens every year but now when I head out for work in the morning (6:30am) it isn't as bright outside; and it's making me wish for summer to start all over again. I'm going to savor these last few weeks of summer; dining al fresco, grilling, spending evenings on our deck drinking chilled wine and maybe get in one last beach day. Basically doing all the things I'm going to miss once these temperatures go down. OK, moving on. Part of our summer bucket list was to try a new restaurant. We had this restaurant marked for over six months and so when we finally had the chance to visit you can say we were pretty excited. Unfortunately, for us, it was a big letdown. Our food was just not good. I was so excited for my mac n cheese but it was soooo bland. Cinthias egg dish sounded like it was going to be incredible based on the description on the menu but it was basically just eggs soaked in t...
